How to set up a Fractional CFO agent in Claude Projects

If you want Claude to act like a fractional CFO—tax planning questions, entity notes, year-end checklists—without re-explaining your business every chat, put the agent in a Claude Project. This guide walks through the current Claude.ai flow and how a Vibewright build fits in.

Vibewright’s first drop is the Fractional CFO · Tax Planner set (five tones) on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM ET. Until then you can claim the free Funny-tone sample for an email signup; the file itself unlocks on that drop.

What you’ll need

1. Create the Project

  1. Open claude.ai/projects (or hover the left sidebar and choose Projects).
  2. Click + New Project.
  3. Name it for the job, not the tool—for example CFO · Tax Planner · Q4. Add a short description for yourself (Claude does not see the name or description).
  4. On Team or Enterprise plans, pick visibility (private vs organization) when prompted.

2. Paste the Vibewright build into project instructions

Anthropic’s docs put standing behavior in project instructions, which apply to every new chat inside that project:

  1. On the project page, click Set project instructions.
  2. Open your Vibewright .md build and paste the full system prompt into the instructions field.
  3. Click Save instructions.

A Vibewright header looks like CFO · Tax Planner · Funny with a SKU such as CFO-TAX3-FUN-v1.0. Keep the whole prompt—role, emphasis, tone, and guardrails—so Claude stays on-character across chats.

Account-wide “Instructions for Claude” in Settings are separate; use project instructions for this CFO role so other work stays unaffected (Claude personalization help).

3. Add tax context to project knowledge

Chats inside a project do not share context with each other unless that material lives in the project knowledge base.

  1. On the right side of the project page, use + to add documents, text, or snippets.
  2. Upload things Claude should always see for this role: entity list, ownership notes, state nexus reminders, recurring deadlines, or CPA contact rules.
  3. On paid plans, when knowledge nears the context limit, Claude can switch into RAG mode automatically to expand capacity.

Do not upload full tax returns with SSNs or bank numbers into a shared Team project unless your firm’s policy allows it. Prefer redacted summaries.

4. Start a chat and smoke-test the tone

  1. Start a new chat inside the project (not a standalone chat).
  2. Ask something concrete: “Draft a year-end tax planning checklist for a PA S-corp with one rental LLC.”
  3. Confirm the tone matches the build (Funny Sidekick should stay playful without soft-pedaling deadlines; Dry Monotone should stay spare).
  4. If answers drift, sharpen the project instructions or trim conflicting account-wide instructions—don’t keep re-pasting the prompt into every message.

5. Optional: memory and starring
